We could not confirm a single major PS5 game with an official release date between Monday, October 19 and Sunday, October 25, 2026, from PlayStation or publisher channels. That makes this one of the thinnest weeks on the fall calendar. This page sorts what is confirmed, what is a pattern-based expectation, and what is only rumor, so you know what to buy, what to queue for a pre-load, and what to ignore.

The October 19-25, 2026 release table

This roundup uses one rule. A game only appears as a confirmed release if PlayStation, the developer, or the publisher has announced a specific day. A season, a month, or “late October” from a trailer or a retailer listing does not count. Under that rule, the table below is short, and we would rather tell you that than fill it with guesses that end up costing you a pre-order.

Game or slot Release day Price PS5 / PS4 / PS VR2 PS Plus status
Major first-party or AAA release None confirmed n/a n/a n/a
PS Plus Extra and Premium monthly additions Tue Oct 20 (expected, pattern) Included with Extra or Premium Mostly PS5, some PS4 Lineup not confirmed at last check
PS Plus Essential October games (still claimable) Available until Mon Nov 2 (pattern) Included with all tiers PS5 and PS4 Essential, Extra, Premium
Smaller digital and indie releases Usually Tue to Fri Varies Varies Check each Store listing

Read the PS Plus rows as forecasts based on how Sony has scheduled the service for the past few years. They are not announcements. If Sony publishes the October catalog post on the PlayStation Blog, it replaces anything predicted here.

How we vetted this list

We checked for official dates in the places that set them: PlayStation Blog posts, the PS Store’s own release-date fields, State of Play announcements, and publisher press releases. Credible outlets such as Push Square, PlayStation LifeStyle, and Gematsu are useful for spotting a date as soon as it goes public. Their weekly roundups still rely on publisher confirmation, so they are a cross-check rather than a primary source.

Retailer listings are where most bad release dates come from. Online shops often put placeholder dates on pre-order pages, commonly the last day of a quarter or December 31. Those placeholders get scraped by aggregator sites and turned into “confirmed” dates that never existed. If the only source for an October 2026 date is a shop page, treat it as a placeholder until the publisher says otherwise.

Why late October 2026 looks so quiet

The biggest shadow over this part of the calendar is Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar has officially dated it for Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PS4 version. Several publishers have said publicly that they would plan around Rockstar’s date once it was final. That leaves two sensible strategies: launch well before November, or wait until after the holidays.

Late October should, in theory, be one of the last clear windows before that launch. Expect at least some companies to claim it once their plans are firm. A quiet table this far out says nothing about how the week will actually look. Release dates for the October-November period have often been announced only eight to twelve weeks ahead, and smaller publishers sometimes lock dates even later than that.

The annual Call of Duty is the other recurring late-autumn release. Recent entries have launched between late October and mid-November. Activision had not announced a 2026 date when we checked. Any specific day you see attributed to the Call of Duty series this year comes from rumor rather than an official source, so we leave it out of the confirmed table until Activision, the series’ publisher, announces one.

Our position on rumored dates

The most common rumors for this week come from anonymous accounts and from datamines of Store backends. Datamines have a decent record for whether a game exists and on which platforms. They are much weaker on dates, because the internal date fields are often placeholders. Anonymous accounts vary widely, and many of them repeat retailer placeholders as if they were insider knowledge. If we add a rumored date to this page, we will label the source, for example “a dataminer with a solid record on platforms but a mixed one on dates,” so you can judge it accordingly.

PS Plus this week: what lands on Tuesday, October 20

The most reliable “release” in a quiet week is usually the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalog update. Sony has followed a steady rhythm. The new Game Catalog is revealed on the PlayStation Blog on a Wednesday around mid-month, and the games become available the following Tuesday, usually the third Tuesday of the month. In October 2026 that Tuesday falls on October 20, which places the catalog drop inside this week.

PS Plus event Typical schedule October 2026 date Status
Essential monthly games go live First Tuesday Tue Oct 6 Pattern
Extra and Premium catalog reveal Mid-month Wednesday Wed Oct 14 Pattern
Extra and Premium catalog available Following Tuesday Tue Oct 20 Pattern, inside this week
November Essential reveal Last Wednesday of month Wed Oct 28 Pattern, just after this week
October Essential games leave Day before next first Tuesday Mon Nov 2 Pattern
November Essential games go live First Tuesday Tue Nov 3 Pattern

Two practical points follow from that schedule. You still have until roughly November 2 to add October’s Essential games to your library, and once added they stay available for as long as you keep any PS Plus tier active. The November Essential lineup will most likely be revealed a few days after this week ends. Our “ps plus november 2026” article tracks predictions, leaks and the reveal date, and we update it as soon as Sony makes the announcement.

Player tip

Add Essential games to your library from the PS Store or the PlayStation App even if you have no time to play them yet. Claiming one doesn’t require a download, and it stays yours to play whenever your subscription is active.

What each tier gets you this week

The Extra catalog drop is the only part of this week’s PS Plus calendar that costs you nothing beyond your existing subscription. If you are deciding whether to upgrade for it, these are the 12-month list prices that applied in Sony’s main markets at our last check. Sony has adjusted prices in some regions since its 2023 increase, so confirm the figure in the PS Store before you pay.

Tier US (12 months) UK (12 months) Eurozone (12 months) What it adds
Essential $79.99 £59.99 €71.99 Online multiplayer, monthly games, cloud saves
Extra $134.99 £99.99 €125.99 Game Catalog of PS5 and PS4 games
Premium $159.99 £119.99 €151.99 Classics, game trials, cloud streaming

Upgrading partway through a subscription is usually prorated rather than charged at full price. That makes a mid-month upgrade timed to a strong catalog week cheaper than many players assume. Downgrading generally takes effect at the next renewal, so check your renewal date under your account’s subscription settings before you switch.

Heads up

Catalog games are tied to an active Extra or Premium subscription. If you drop back to Essential, saves sync to the cloud, but you cannot launch those games again until you upgrade.

Dated PS5 games on either side of the week

This week is quiet, but the surrounding calendar is not. The table below lists high-profile PS5 games with official dates or official windows near October 2026, graded by source. Only rows marked with a specific day are firm.

Game Date PS5 / PS4 Source grade
Phantom Blade Zero Wed Sep 9, 2026 PS5 only Official (S-Game, State of Play)
Marvel’s Wolverine Fall 2026, no day PS5 only Official (Sony, Insomniac)
Onimusha: Way of the Sword 2026, no day PS5 only Official (Capcom)
Grand Theft Auto VI Thu Nov 19, 2026 PS5 only Official (Rockstar)

Any game here with an open window could still move into the October 19-25 slot. Marvel’s Wolverine is not one of them: Insomniac announced a release date of September 15, 2026, and the game launched on that date.

Phantom Blade Zero: the September game you may still be playing

S-Game’s action RPG launches on October 29, 2026, a few days after this window closes. It is the most recent big single-player sword-combat release on PS5, so it may still be what you are playing during this quiet week. You play Soul, an assassin framed for the murder of his organization’s patriarch who, according to the studio’s story setup, is left with only 66 days to live. The studio calls the setting “kungfupunk,” a mix of wuxia martial arts and industrial machinery, and the whole campaign is built around that premise.

Combat is the reason to care. The fights lean on fast blade combos, parries, and a heavy weapon swap system, and S-Game has repeatedly described it as a single-player action game rather than a full Soulslike, despite how the early trailers looked. If you skipped it at launch because of the September crowd, a release week with no major arrivals is a good time to pick it up, and early post-launch patches usually smooth out the rough edges that week-one buyers dealt with.

Marvel’s Wolverine: dated for fall, not yet for a day

Insomniac’s Wolverine had an official “Fall 2026” window at our last check, confirmed in a State of Play. Sony had not given a specific day. That matters for this roundup because a date announced inside the window would be the single biggest change to this week’s list. A late-October first-party launch would also fit Sony’s past approach of keeping its big exclusives clear of the major third-party November releases.

What Sony and Insomniac have confirmed about the game is a standalone, single-player story featuring Logan, separate from the Spider-Man games’ campaign structure, although set in the same universe. Insomniac has signalled a more brutal tone than its Spider-Man work, with close-quarters claw combat at the center. Until a date is official, do not trust any “leaked” release day for Wolverine. Several have circulated from anonymous accounts with poor records, and none had been confirmed at our last check.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Capcom’s revival of its samurai action series has a confirmed release date of September 4, 2026, moved up from September 25 in an announcement Capcom made on July 2, 2026, and it has already launched. The game is set in Edo-period Kyoto, and Capcom modeled its lead, Miyamoto Musashi, on the likeness of actor Toshiro Mifune. That is one of the clearest statements of intent the series has made since it went dormant.

Like the originals, it pairs sword combat with demonic enemies, swapping the old fixed camera angles for a modern third-person setup. Capcom has spread its 2026 releases across the year, and a fall date for Onimusha would be consistent with that. As things stand, though, any October 2026 date you see for it is speculation. Its September 4 launch places it well before this week, so it does not belong in this week’s table.

Grand Theft Auto VI: a short note on the elephant in November

GTA 6 is not part of this week, but it shapes it. Rockstar’s official date is Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PS4 version and Rockstar had not announced a PC version at our last check. Pre-orders, pricing and pre-load timing had not been confirmed by Rockstar either. Treat any price you see as speculation until Rockstar or the PS Store lists it.

The useful step for this week is storage. GTA 6’s file size has not been officially announced, but open-world PS5 games of this scale have routinely needed well over 100 GB. Clearing space now, before the November rush, is more productive than chasing rumors.

PS4 and PS VR2 this week

PS4 owners should expect very little. New PS4 releases have thinned out across 2025 and 2026. Among the large games dated near this window, only Wolverine is PS5-only: GTA 6 is on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Onimusha is on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and Phantom Blade Zero is on PS5 and PC. When a PS4 version does appear in a weekly list now, it is usually a smaller indie title or a cross-generation port from a publisher with a large PS4 audience.

PS VR2 is in a similar position. Sony cut the headset’s price to $399.99 in the US in March 2025, and the PC adapter widened what you can do with it. New PS VR2 releases still arrive in small numbers, often as digital-only launches announced shortly before they go live. We did not find a PS VR2 game officially dated inside October 19-25, 2026. If one appears, it will most likely surface in the PlayStation Blog’s weekly new-releases post or in the PS Store’s VR section.

For anyone still holding onto a PS4, the bigger question is how long cross-generation support will last before Sony’s next hardware arrives. Our “playstation 6” rumor tracker covers what has been reported about that console. “ps6 price speculation” covers the reported component costs that have readers bracing for a high launch price.

How to check this week’s releases on your PS5 yourself

The PS Store on PS5 shows publisher-set dates directly, which makes it a more reliable source than third-party calendars. Here is how to see what is actually coming and how to make sure it is ready when it unlocks.

Quick steps: track and pre-load this week's releases

  1. Open PlayStation Store from the PS5 home screen.
  2. Check the Latest tab for new and upcoming releases.
  3. Open a game’s page and read the listed release date.
  4. Pre-order or wishlist the games you want.
  5. Go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet.
  6. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Updates and turn on Auto-Download.

Step 1: Use the Store’s own release date, not a calendar site

A game’s PS Store page shows the date the publisher entered, and that date is what controls when the game unlocks. If a calendar site and the Store disagree, the Store wins. If the Store page shows a broad window or no date at all, the game is not confirmed for this week, whatever a roundup elsewhere claims.

Step 2: Pre-order or wishlist to get notified

Pre-ordering a digital PS5 game usually lets it pre-load, and publishers often open pre-loads about 48 hours before launch, although this varies by game. A wishlist costs nothing and lets the Store tell you about price changes or launches. Check Settings > Notifications to make sure Store and game alerts are enabled, or you may miss them.

Step 3: Let Rest Mode do the downloading

With Stay Connected to the Internet and Auto-Download turned on, your PS5 can pull down pre-loads and day-one patches overnight in Rest Mode. That is the difference between playing at unlock and waiting through a 40 GB patch. Plan for Rest Mode to need a working network connection and enough free space for both the game and its launch update.

Troubleshooting release-week problems

Problem Likely cause What to do
Game shows “Pre-order” after the release date Regional unlock time not reached yet Check the publisher’s unlock time for your region
Pre-load didn’t start Auto-Download off or no Rest Mode connection Enable both settings in Steps 5 and 6
Game installed but won’t launch Day-one patch still downloading Open the game’s options and check the download queue
PS Plus catalog game missing on Oct 20 Lineup goes live at a set hour, not midnight Check again later in the day, or confirm against the Blog post
“Not enough storage” during pre-load Game plus launch patch exceeds free space Clear space under Settings > Storage

Unlock times are the most common source of confusion. Some publishers release at midnight local time in each region. Others pick a single global moment, which can mean an afternoon or evening unlock depending on where you live. The publisher’s launch post or the PS Store page is where that is confirmed, and it is worth checking the day before rather than at 11:59 p.m.

If a new release offers adaptive trigger or haptic feedback settings and they feel too stiff or too weak, our “ps5 controller” guide walks through the DualSense options worth adjusting before you start a long single-player campaign.

What would change this page

Three things would move this week from quiet to busy. The first is an official PS Plus Game Catalog post naming the October 20 lineup, which would replace the pattern-based row in the main table with a real list of games. The second is a publisher or Sony announcing a specific day inside October 19-25 for a game that currently has only a window; Wolverine and Onimusha are not candidates, since both launched in September on confirmed dates. The third is a burst of smaller digital releases announced late, which is common in the weeks before a big November launch.

Until then, the honest summary is short. No major PS5 game is confirmed for this week. The Extra catalog is likely to update on Tuesday, October 20. The surrounding months are where the big releases are, so you can use this week to catch up on Phantom Blade Zero, claim October’s Essential games before November 2, and clear storage ahead of November 19.

FAQ

Are there any big new PS5 games out the week of October 19, 2026?

At our last check, no major PS5 game had an officially confirmed release date between October 19 and 25, 2026. Smaller digital and indie titles may still launch that week, and publishers often announce late-October dates only a couple of months ahead, so the list can grow.

Is anything joining PS Plus this week?

Probably. Sony usually adds its Extra and Premium Game Catalog titles on the third Tuesday of the month, which is October 20, 2026. That is a pattern rather than an announcement, and the specific games are only confirmed when Sony posts the catalog on the PlayStation Blog, usually the Wednesday before.

When are the November 2026 PS Plus Essential games announced?

Based on Sony’s usual schedule, expect the reveal on Wednesday, October 28, with the games going live on Tuesday, November 3. Our “ps plus november 2026” article covers predictions and leaks, graded by how reliable each source is.

Does GTA 6 come out this week?

No. Rockstar’s official release date for Grand Theft Auto VI is Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no PS4 version, and Rockstar had not confirmed its price or pre-load timing at our last check.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine releasing in October 2026?

It has not been confirmed. Sony and Insomniac had given Wolverine a “Fall 2026” window but no specific day at our last check. Any exact October date you see from unofficial accounts should be treated as unverified until Sony announces it.

Are any PS4 or PS VR2 games releasing this week?

We found none with an official date in this window. Several large 2026 releases near this window are multi-platform, with GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Onimusha: Way of the Sword on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and Phantom Blade Zero on PS5 and PC, and PS VR2 games tend to be announced shortly before they launch. Check the PS Store and the PlayStation Blog’s weekly releases post during the week itself.
