This page explains what information PSX Online (onpsx.net) collects when you visit, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. We are a small, independent PlayStation guides and news site, so we have kept this policy short and written it in plain English.

Who we are

PSX Online is an independent content website. We are not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment or PlayStation. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “this site” refer to PSX Online at onpsx.net.

The short version

  • You can read everything on this site without creating an account or giving us your name.
  • Like almost every website, our server records basic technical information when you visit.
  • We use a small number of cookies. Analytics or advertising partners we work with may set their own.
  • Embedded videos and social posts come from other companies, and those companies have their own privacy rules.
  • Tools on this site that say they run in your browser do exactly that. What you enter stays on your device.
  • We do not sell your personal data.

Information collected automatically

Server logs

When your browser requests a page, our web server and hosting provider automatically record standard log information. This usually includes:

  • Your IP address
  • The date and time of the request
  • The page or file requested
  • Your browser type and operating system
  • The referring page, if your browser sends one

We use these logs to keep the site running, fix errors, understand load, and protect the site against abuse such as spam, scraping and attacks. We do not use server logs to build profiles of individual readers.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. Similar technologies include local storage and pixels. We group them as follows.

Type What it does Set by
Essential Keeps the site working and secure, and remembers your cookie choices This site
Preferences Remembers settings such as display options, where offered This site
Analytics Counts visits and shows which pages are useful, usually in aggregate Analytics partners we may use
Advertising Shows ads, limits repeats, measures performance, and may personalise ads Advertising partners we may use

Essential cookies do not require consent because the site cannot work properly without them. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent before analytics or advertising cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time.

Analytics and advertising partners

To understand how readers use the site and to help cover running costs, we may use third-party analytics services and advertising networks. When these are active, those providers may collect information such as your IP address, device identifiers, browser details and the pages you view, and may set their own cookies.

These partners process data under their own privacy policies, and we do not control their cookies. Where we use advertising, you can usually manage personalised ads through the partner’s own ad settings, through industry opt-out tools, or by refusing advertising cookies in our consent options. If you refuse, you may still see ads, but they will be less tailored to you.

We will keep this page updated to reflect the types of partners we use.

Embedded content from other sites

Some guides and news posts include embedded content such as YouTube videos, social media posts or trailers hosted elsewhere. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other site directly.

That means the provider may:

  • Collect data about you, including your IP address
  • Set cookies in your browser
  • Track your interaction with the embedded item, especially if you are logged in to that service

We do not receive the data these providers collect. Check their privacy policies to see how they handle it. Where possible, we use privacy-enhanced embed options.

Tools that run in your browser

Some features on this site, such as calculators, checklists or trackers, run entirely in your browser. Where a tool is described this way:

  • What you type or select is processed on your own device
  • It is not sent to our servers
  • Any saved progress is stored in your browser’s local storage, not with us

You can delete this saved data at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for onpsx.net. Clearing it will also wipe any progress the tool saved.

Information you choose to send us

If you contact us, we receive whatever you include in your message, such as your name, your email address and the content of your message. We use this only to read and reply to you. We do not add you to a mailing list unless you specifically ask to join one.

How long we keep data

We keep information only for as long as we need it:

  • Server logs: kept for a limited period, normally no longer than 90 days, unless we need them longer to investigate a security issue or abuse.
  • Messages you send us: kept as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, then deleted unless there is a clear reason to keep them, such as an ongoing conversation.
  • Cookies: each cookie has its own expiry. Essential and preference cookies on this site are kept no longer than necessary. Partner cookies follow the partner’s own retention periods.
  • Browser-based tool data: stays on your device until you clear it.

Why we use your information

We use the limited information described above to:

  • Deliver pages to your browser and keep the site online
  • Protect the site from fraud, spam and attacks
  • Understand which content is useful so we can improve it
  • Show advertising that helps fund the site, where active
  • Reply when you contact us

Where data protection laws require a legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interest in running and securing a website (for server logs and essential cookies), your consent (for non-essential cookies), and your request (when you contact us).

We do not sell your personal data

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. Advertising partners may use cookies to show and measure ads, as described above. If you live somewhere where certain ad-related data sharing counts as a “sale” or “sharing” under local law, you can opt out by refusing advertising cookies in our consent settings or by turning on a browser signal such as Global Privacy Control, which we treat as an opt-out request where the law requires it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the GDPR in the UK and European Union and state privacy laws in the United States give you rights over your personal data. These can include the right to:

  • Ask what personal data we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Ask us to delete your data
  • Object to or restrict certain uses of your data
  • Withdraw consent you previously gave, such as for cookies
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Complain to your local data protection authority

To make a request, contact us using the contact details published on this site. We may need to ask for information to confirm the request comes from you. We will respond within the time required by the law that applies to you.

Keep in mind that because we collect very little, we often hold nothing that can identify you personally. Server logs, for example, are tied to IP addresses rather than names.

Managing cookies yourself

You can control cookies at any time:

  • Use the cookie settings on this site to change your consent choices
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings
  • Use private or incognito browsing, which clears cookies when you close the window

Blocking all cookies may stop some features from working, such as remembering your settings or saved progress in browser-based tools.

Children

This site is a general-audience gaming site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the site and the limited data we handle, including serving the site over HTTPS. No website can guarantee complete security, but we keep the data we collect to a minimum, which reduces what could ever be exposed.

International visitors

Our hosting provider and any partners we use may process data in countries other than your own. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers put in place for international data transfers.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change, for example if we add a new analytics or advertising partner. The “Last updated” date at the top will always show when the policy was last revised. Significant changes will be made clear on this page.

Contact

If you have questions about this policy or want to make a privacy request, get in touch through the contact details published on this site. We read every message and will reply as soon as we can.
