CONFIRMED
Sim racer Project Motor Racing is free to play on PS5 right now, and you don’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription to jump in. The official Project Motor Racing site confirms the trial runs from 26 October to 1 November 2026 and includes every base-game mode, online included. Here’s how to grab it and when the window closes.

What we know
According to the official Project Motor Racing site, run by publisher Giants Software and developer Straight4 Studios, the free trial opened on 26 October at 00:00 UTC and ends on 1 November at 23:59 UTC. That gives you a full week of racing, but check your local time zone so you don’t lose your last evening.
Getting it is simple. The official site says players who don’t already own the game can search the PlayStation Store for Project Motor Racing and download the trial from there. No code, no sign-up page.
The bigger news for PS5 players is the paywall situation, or rather the lack of one. The official site confirms a PlayStation Plus subscription is not required, and all online modes are accessible during the trial. Free weekends usually lock multiplayer behind PS Plus, so this one is more generous than most.
On content, the official site says the trial includes all base-game content and modes, with DLC excluded. That works out to more than 70 cars across 14 classes and 18 tracks. Push Square’s report lines up with those numbers.
Push Square also reports that the game normally costs $49.99/£44.99, and that your save data carries over if you buy the full game afterward. Laps, setups and progress from this week shouldn’t be wasted if you decide to keep playing.
What we don’t know yet
Neither Giants Software nor Straight4 has announced a discount to go alongside the trial, so don’t assume there will be a sale when the week ends. If one shows up, we’ll update.
The official site doesn’t spell out what happens to the trial download once the clock hits 23:59 UTC on 1 November. Expect access to end, but that detail hasn’t been confirmed beyond the trial dates.
We also don’t have word on whether more free trials are planned, or whether the excluded DLC will ever get its own sampling period. Operation Sports, in a report not yet confirmed by the publisher, says six DLC packs are currently available with another on the way. Treat that count as unofficial for now.
What it means

Project Motor Racing launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on 25 November 2025. Its first year hasn’t been smooth. Daily Downforce describes the game as launching in a troubled state, and says Straight4 has kept updating it through 2026. That outlet’s take is context, not official word, but it explains why a no-strings trial makes sense right now: it gives lapsed or skeptical players a free look at where the game stands today.
For you, the math is easy. A full week, the whole base roster of cars and tracks, online racing without PS Plus, and a save that carries forward if you buy. If you’ve been curious about the game but put off by the launch reviews, there’s no cost to finding out whether the updates have done enough.
Download it from the PlayStation Store, get your wheel or pad settings sorted early, and make the most of the time before 1 November at 23:59 UTC.
