CONFIRMED
PlayStation’s official X account says its big anniversary book, PlayStation: The First 30 Years, is “available to order now, shipping in November,” according to Insider Gaming, which embedded the post. PlayStation LifeStyle reports the Standard Edition costs $125 and the Deluxe Edition $325, with both available to order from publisher Read-Only Memory’s website.
What we know
This isn’t a fresh reveal. PlayStation Blog first announced the book on Sept 29, 2025, describing it as a large-format photography book covering never-before-seen prototypes, concept sketches and design models from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s hardware development. It arrived alongside a PlayStation x Reebok sneaker collaboration as part of the celebrations for the original console’s 30th anniversary in North America and Europe, where it launched on Sept 9, 1995.
GameSpot reported at the time that the book is a 400-page hardcover from British publisher Read-Only Memory. It features commentary from Ken Kutaragi, Teiyu Goto and Yujin Morisawa, plus new photography by Benedict Redgrove. PlayStation LifeStyle describes it as a collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment, covering the visual history of consoles, controllers and design concepts and drawing on the company’s R&D archive.
The October push is about availability. PlayStation’s official accounts posted “400 pages of gaming history” with November shipping, and PlayStation LifeStyle confirms orders are open on the Read-Only Memory site.
There are two editions:
- Standard Edition: $125.
- Deluxe Edition: $325, limited to 1,994 copies. GameSpot says it adds exposed binding, a clamshell presentation box and exclusive prints.
That 1,994 number is a nod to 1994, the year the first PlayStation launched in Japan, as Digital Camera World pointed out. It’s the same year Sony referenced with the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection PS5 hardware in November 2024. GameSpot and PlayStation LifeStyle both put the Deluxe limit at 1,994 copies.
What we don’t know yet
Why it slipped. When GameSpot listed the book in September 2025, it was slated for spring 2026. November 2026 is a clear delay. Read-Only Memory said in an April 2026 statement that it needed more time for final production, fact-checking and image checks.
UK pricing now. TechRadar and PlayStation Trophies reported UK prices of £95 for Standard and £245 for Deluxe back in 2025. We haven’t seen those confirmed again alongside the new shipping window, so check the order page before assuming they still apply.
Physical specs. Insider Gaming lists the book as weighing five kilograms with 375 x 295 mm dimensions. No second major outlet or publisher page we checked confirms those figures, so treat them as single-source for now.
Deluxe stock. Nobody has said how many of the 1,994 Deluxe copies remain, or whether preorders from the 2025 window have used up much of the run.
An exact date. “November” is all PlayStation has said. There is no specific ship day yet.
What it means
If you preordered back in 2025 and wondered where your book went, this is the answer: it’s running late, and Sony now says it ships in November. If you didn’t, orders are open again through Read-Only Memory.
The Standard Edition at $125 is the sensible pick for most fans who want the archive material: prototypes, design sketches and commentary from Ken Kutaragi, the father of PlayStation, alongside design leads Teiyu Goto and Yujin Morisawa. The Deluxe at $325 is aimed at collectors who care about the presentation box, exclusive prints and a numbered-feeling run of 1,994. That limit is small for a brand this size, so if you want one, don’t wait long.
Just go in knowing this is a coffee-table book, not a hidden-gem reveal. It’s for people who like seeing how the hardware on their shelf came together.
