Sword of the Sea Xbox listing reportedly shows October 29 release date

CONFIRMED

An Xbox Store listing for Sword of the Sea, Giant Squid’s surfing adventure that launched on PS5 and PC, reportedly showed an Xbox release date of October 29. Giant Squid, Microsoft and Sony have not confirmed an Xbox version, and reports about the listing’s details conflict.

What we know

Sword of the Sea was revealed at the PlayStation Showcase in May 2023. Giant Squid’s announcement on the PlayStation Blog said the game would release on PS5, and the studio’s own announcement page listed PS5 and Steam with no mention of Xbox.

Engadget reported in June 2025 that Giant Squid had set an August 19 launch on PS5 and PC, with the game joining PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium on day one. That launch happened as planned. ComicBook.com notes the game holds an 88 on Metacritic.

Giant Squid’s official site still lists PS5, Steam and the Epic Games Store, with no Xbox mention.

There is also an earlier hint. Yahoo Tech, citing Windows Central, reported that Giant Squid confirmed in April 2026 that it was exploring port options. The studio said this in reply to a fan on X who asked about Xbox. That is not an announcement of any specific platform.

What is rumored

KitGuru reports that an Xbox Store listing for Sword of the Sea went live showing an October 29 release date, and that the page was later taken down. KitGuru credits ResetEra user Aspect with spotting it.

Output Lag says Microsoft’s catalog lists October 29, 2026 at 16:00 UTC, and that the entry was last modified on October 22 before surfacing over the weekend. Xboxdynasty covered the listing on October 26. Other reports, though, say the page shows no official date, price or purchase option. So even the basic details are in dispute.

Game Rant reports that the listing names Fictions as publisher, with Giant Squid as developer, and describes Fictions as the former Private Division, now owned by Haveli Investments. Output Lag says it could not find a public record of a games publisher by that name, and neither company has explained it.

KitGuru also speculates that Sony and Giant Squid had a one-year exclusivity deal. That is opinion. We found no Sony or Giant Squid statement on exclusivity terms.

What we don’t know yet

With an Xbox Store listing already public and reported by multiple outlets, an Xbox version looks highly likely, and Wikipedia already lists Xbox Series X/S as a platform with an October 29, 2026 release date. Output Lag says Giant Squid has not announced one. A Windows Forum roundup says neither Giant Squid nor Microsoft has confirmed the listing, and ComicBook.com says there is no official word that the game is coming to Xbox.

The date is also uncertain. Output Lag points out that store dates can move, so October 29 looks like a current plan rather than a promise. Price, publisher arrangements and any feature differences on Xbox are all unknown.

We found no statement from Sony or PlayStation, and no coverage yet from major outlets like Push Square, IGN or VGC.

What it means

If you play on PS5, nothing official points to changes for your version. The game is still listed for PS5 on Giant Squid’s site, and no announcement covers updates, pricing or anything else for PlayStation players.

The listing does fit a familiar pattern. Plenty of PS5 console exclusives from independent studios eventually land on other platforms, and Giant Squid’s April comments suggest the studio was at least looking at its options. A store page appearing and vanishing is often how these moves leak early.

Until Giant Squid, Fictions or Microsoft says something, treat the October 29 Xbox date as unconfirmed. We will update this story if an announcement arrives.
