CONFIRMED
PlayStation Plus Essential’s October 2026 games are live, and the PlayStation Blog lists them as F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. GameSpot reports that all PS Plus members can claim them from October 6 through November 2. Subscribers also get free horror-themed item bundles for Halloween, according to GameSpot.
What we know
The PlayStation Blog lists three Monthly Games for October 2026: F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. Sony announced the lineup on September 30, according to secondary outlets citing the PlayStation Blog.
GameSpot reports that the claim window runs from October 6 to November 2. Once you add a game to your library, it stays playable as long as your PS Plus membership is active.
Platform support matters this month. According to GameSpot, F1 25 and Hunt: Showdown 1896 are PS5 only. Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 is on both PS5 and PS4, so it is the only one of the three that PS4-only owners can play.
PlayStation LifeStyle reported that the games began rolling out in Japan and Asia on Tuesday, October 6. The outlet notes that Essential games are not staggered by region. Everyone gets the lineup on the same date at noon local time, when the PS Store updates.
There is one regional difference. PlayStation LifeStyle notes that Hello Neighbor replaces Hunt: Showdown 1896 in Japan. This matches Sony’s standing note that the monthly lineup can vary by region.
For Halloween, GameSpot reports that PS Plus subscribers can claim free horror-themed in-game item bundles for games including Call of Duty: Warzone and Overwatch.
Extra and Premium members have a separate catalog wave. The PlayStation Blog published its October Game Catalog post on October 14, with Mafia: The Old Country, Horizon Forbidden West and Mycopunk named in the headline. Those titles began arriving October 20. The Gamer, citing the PlayStation Blog, reports that some catalog games land on October 27, including Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2. The Gamer also lists Dino Crisis 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition for Premium on October 20.
What we don’t know yet
The sources we have don’t give a full list of games with Halloween bundles. They also don’t say exactly what each bundle contains or how long the bundles stay claimable. If you want the Warzone or Overwatch items, grab them soon rather than assume they last until November 2.
Sony has not announced November’s Essential lineup yet. Japan is the only regional swap we have confirmation on, so players elsewhere should check their own PS Store listing.
One headline needs a correction. Some outlets, including ScreenRant with its “5 New Free Games” framing, imply that five Essential games arrived in October. The PlayStation Blog and GameSpot list only three Essential Monthly Games. The Extra and Premium catalog is a separate drop with its own dates, and no approved source backs up the five-game figure.
What it means

PS5 owners get a solid, varied month. F1 25 is a full racing season to dig into. Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a tense extraction shooter that suits the spooky season. Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 is a lighter co-op romp.
PS4-only players get a thinner deal, with EDF: World Brothers 2 as their one playable pick. You can still claim the PS5 games now so they are in your library if you upgrade later, as long as your membership stays active.
If you missed September’s games (MLB The Show 26, Sniper Elite: Resistance, Chained Echoes and Wobbly Life), PlayStation LifeStyle notes the window closed October 5. Don’t let October slip the same way. Claim all three before November 2 and pick up the Halloween bundles while they’re available.
