What we know

PlayStation Blog confirmed the Prism Collection on October 28, 2026. It covers two products: DualSense wireless controllers and PS5 console covers, both with a transparent finish. A Southeast Asia version of the post followed on October 29.

Insider Gaming, reporting the PlayStation Blog post, lists three colorways for both controllers and covers:

  • Flare Orange
  • Emerald Green
  • Graphite Gray

Kotaku’s report described the designs as see-through green, red and blue. Read that as loose wording, not the official names. The names Sony is using, per Insider Gaming, are the three above.

Pricing, also reported by Insider Gaming from the blog post:

  • Prism DualSense controller: $84.99 / €84.99 / £74.99 / ¥12,480 (incl. tax)
  • Prism console cover: $74.99 / €74.99 / £64.99 / ¥9,980 (incl. tax)

According to Insider Gaming, pre-orders open November 10, 2026 at 10 am local time, directly from PlayStation or through participating retailers. The full release follows on February 4, 2027.

Sony’s stated goal, as quoted by Insider Gaming, is to bring a “transparent appearance to PS5” and give fans a closer look at the design and craftsmanship inside DualSense controllers and PS5 consoles. Kotaku reports that PlayStation designer Leo Cardoso said on the PlayStation Blog that Sony knows how much fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers. The 1990s see-through inspiration comes directly from Sony’s design team.

What we don’t know yet

The biggest open question is compatibility. We have not seen an official Sony statement confirming which PS5 models the Prism covers fit. If you own a PS5 Pro or an original launch model, check PlayStation’s own product page or compatibility listing before you pre-order a cover.

Regional availability for the covers is also unclear from the sources we can confirm. Insider Gaming’s report says pre-orders run through PlayStation directly and participating retailers. It does not specify whether every country gets both products through both channels. Sony has not confirmed pricing beyond the US, European, UK and Japanese figures above in the reporting we checked.

We also don’t know stock levels, whether Sony plans more Prism colors later, or whether bundles are on the table. None of that has been announced.

What it means

For anyone who grew up with see-through hardware, this is a straightforward nostalgia play, and Sony is open about that. The Prism line is a design-led release rather than a tie-in. Insider Gaming points out that 2026 has already brought a run of collaboration DualSense controllers, including GTA 6, LISA, Marvel’s Wolverine and Marathon. Prism instead follows the earlier Hyperpop collection as a non-collaboration line.

On price, the controller sits at $84.99. That puts it in special-edition territory rather than standard-pad territory, so you are paying for the look. The covers at $74.99 are a cheaper way to change how your console looks without replacing hardware.

Practical advice: pre-orders open November 10 at 10 am local time, so if a specific colorway matters to you, be ready then. Before buying a cover, confirm it fits your exact PS5 model on PlayStation’s official listing. Until Sony spells that out, treat compatibility as unconfirmed.

We’ll update this story when PlayStation publishes compatibility details or expands regional availability.
